Vision for Shaker Regional School Board
Adopted 9/28/06
Amended 5/8/08
Amended 5/14/09
Amended 5/12/2011

The members of the Shaker Regional School Board will have a broad view of student achievement and will:

PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE WHOLE CHILD:  Emphasize healthful living and physical fitness in keeping with our belief, as stated in the Strategic Plan, that the social, physical and emotional growth of our students is as important as their academic growth.

KNOW LEARNING CONDITIONS:  Be knowledgeable about learning conditions in our four District schools, District Alternative Education programs, the Huot Technical Center and the Winnisquam Agriculture Program and how teaching and staffing structure and resources in each District school relate to improving student achievement.  Be generally aware of the activities of home-schoolers and in private schools located in the District.

PROMOTE EXEMPLARY LEARNING CONDITIONS
: Demonstrate commitment to ensuring K-12 children in District schools have exemplary learning conditions by expecting and supporting parental involvement while taking into account socioeconomic factors that may pose a challenge to ensuring such learning conditions.

HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
:  Hold high expectations of constant improvement in measured, individual student achievement and provide the time and other resources necessary for the staff to inform and educate the Board about the success, or lack thereof, in improvement in student achievement.

SUPPORT IMPROVED TEACHING TECHNIQUE:  Show commitment to professional development and expect constant improvement of teaching technique related to student achievement.

KNOW STAFF:  Insist and persist in maintaining a professional, cordial, and fruitful relationship with the Superintendent, SAU staff, building administrators, teaching staff and building support staff and, when deserved, offer well-grounded, specific and tangible commendation, especially to positive role models for students.

SUSTAIN INITIATIVES:  Once begun, attend to and sustain program and facility initiatives related to improving student achievement.

BALANCE EDUCATION PROVIDED WITH RESOURCES AVAILABLE
:  Make program and facility decisions in keeping with the District’s Strategic Plan, while attuned to fiscal realities in the communities of Belmont and Canterbury.  Publicly evaluate and articulate the balance achieved.

BE KNOWN TO STAKEHOLDERS:  Reach out and be transparent to stakeholders and be open to stakeholder response to Board and District’s activities.

AFFECT PUBLIC POLICY
:  At the state and federal level, influence public policy to improve student achievement and provide sound fiscal support for public education.

ENJOY PUBLIC SERVICE:  Promote conditions which allow and demonstrate the joys of public service and model cordial relationships on all matters.
