Meet the Special Education Staff
|

Laura Duggan is currently the special needs teacher at Belmont Elementary School. She is certified in the following areas: Elementary Education, General Special Education, and Mental Retardation. Laura also recently completed her certification in Autism Spectrum Disorders from Antioch University New England. Laura obtained her Bachelors degree from Boston College in Elementary and Special Education, a Masters Degree in Severe Special Needs from Boston College and additional certification in Autism from Antioc College. Tynamaria Schwaegerl joined the special education team in 2010. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Keene State College and her Master's Degree in Education from New England College. Tynamaria is certified in Elementary Education and General Special Education. Tynamaria's educational experience has also included being a teacher assistant for six years at Crotched Mountain School and as a speech assistant at Bow Elementary School. You can reach Tynamaria at tschwaegerl@sau80.org. Cassandra Prescott is an Integrated Pre-School Teacher at Belmont Elementary School. She works with students ages three through five. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary/Special Education and psychology. Cassandra is also working on finishing up her Master's Degree at Plymouth State University in both Elementary and Special Education. She is certified by the State of New Hampshire in the areas of Elementary and Special Education. Sally is one of the Special Education Teachers at Belmont Elementary School. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education and Master’s of Education from Keene State College in Keene, NH. Sally currently hold’s certification for the areas of General Special Education, Emotional Disabilities, Elementary Education and Learning Disabilities. Sally was nominated to be in Who’s Who in American Education (1996-1997) and was Belmont Elementary Schools Teacher of the Year in 1992. Sally has worked extremely hard to compile a Special Education Resource Library that is available to staff and parents. Kathy received her B.A. in Elementary Education and Special Education from Rivier College in 1978. She completed her M.Ed. in 1993 at UNH in Early Childhood Special Needs. Kathy is continuing her education at Simmons College working towards a reading specialist degree in the area of Language and Literacy. Kathy brings with her expertise and experience in early childhood education. Kathy is currently certified in the following areas: Elementary Education, General Special Education, Learning Disabilities, and Early Childhood Education. Kathy has also been trained in the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing Program (LIPS), Orton Gillingham Program, LANGUAGE! and Cloud Nine Multisensory Math program. She is currently working at Belmont Middle School with special education students. She earned a master’s degree in education from Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH and holds the following state certifications: learning disabilities specialist, reading specialist, general special education, elementary education and emotional disturbed. (Former Name: Ann Porter) Daniel Geoffrey has been a part of the Middle School Special Educaiton staff since 2004. Dan completed his undergraduate degree at Plymouth State College and his Master’s degree at Southern New Hampshire University. Dan is currently certified in the areas of elementary education, general special education, and learning disabilities. Dan brings with him many years of middle school special education experience. Charles Roberts works in our special needs classroom at Belmont Middle School. Charles completed his undergraduate work at Houghton College and Plymouth State College. He has completed his certification in special education through the College for Lifelong Learning. Charles comes to the district with a variety of experiences in education and is a wonderful addition to the already great programs at BHS. Charlie has also completed the Orton Gillingham Reading Program. Annie completed her special education certification through the Alternative 4 option and received her Masters of Education from Plymouth State College. She is certified in general special education. Annie also holds and additional cerficate in autism from Antioch College.Annie has shown a special interest in improving the reading skills of our at risk students. She attained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire with a major in Communication Disorders and a minor in Psychology. She obtained her Master's Degree in Elementary Education, with a focus on Reading and Special Education, from Plymouth State College. Sharon has many years of experience working in public schools and holds certifications in the areas of Reading and Writing Specialist, Elementary Education (K-8), General Special Education, and Learning Disabilities. Her special interests include: Speech and Language Therapy, Reading Instruction, and Language Learning Disabilities. He can be reached at rfortier@sau80.org Alex Takantjas received his B.A. from the University of Illinois and his General Special Education certification from Plymouth State University. Alex is currently working towards his Learning Disabilities Specialist concentration. Alex specifically enjoys sharing his love for Social Studies and Mathematics with his students. He can be reached at atakantjas@sau80.org Tonyel M. Berry is our Director of Student Services. In this role, she will oversee all Special Education programs in the district. Tonyel joined our district following five years of post-secondary experience at Hesser College which will be instrumental in the implementation of reauthorization of IDEA 2004. She is a graduate of Florida State University, having earned her Bachelors in English and has also received her Masters of Education (Educational Leadership/Special Education Administration) from Plymouth State University. She is also certified in General Special Education and Special Education Administration. Cherri can be reached at cdrake@sau80.org Carol Greene is our district’s Occupational Therapist. Carol has been with the district for many years and provides the special education teams with information and consultation in regards to student’s motor and sensory needs. She works individually and with small groups throughout the district. The goal of the occupational therapist is to strengthen and tone those muscles necessary to be academically and socially successful. She can be reached at havlicke@sau80.org Kristie Jewell joined the Special Education Department in August 2012 as an Occupational Therapist. She will be working with students at CES, BMS and BHS. She can be reached at kjewell@sau80.org Ryan Long is a school psychologist at Belmont Middle School and Belmont High School. He received a Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of New Hampshire, and completed additional graduate coursework at Plymouth State University for state certification in School Psychology. He is currently enrolled in a doctoral program at the University of Southern Maine. Mr. Long is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and has NH Department of Education endorsements for School Psychology and Guidance Counseling. He can be reached at rlong@sau80.org Andrea Parker is the Speech-Language Pathologist for the Belmont Elementary School, and as needed throughout the Shaker Regional School District. She received her Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of New Hampshire in 2003. She received her Master of Arts in Speech Language and Hearing from the University of Connecticut in 2005. She has a special interest in working with students on the Autism Spectrum and has attended a wide variety of professional development activities to gain skills in the area of Augmentative/Alternative Communication, pragmatic/social language skills, and general programming and language concerns for school age children on the Autism Spectrum. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as well as licensure from the State of New Hampshire Office of Allied Health Professionals.
